Dissatisfied? Ask For Your Money Back

Shoppers too often simply deal with substandard products and waste their money by chucking an item in the trash when it doesn’t meet expectations.  Unless you’ve bought it on clearance or with a ‘no returns/refunds or exchanges’ policy, you should consider asking for your money back.

Understanding Money Back Guarantees and Returns Policies

If you buy something that’s big ticket, be sure you know the return policy up front and if the item doesn’t meet your needs, ask for a refund or exchange.  Brand research ahead of major purchases is a good idea. Reading product reviews and talking to others can be very helpful as well.

When it comes to groceries, you might feel like you can’t take something back that was unsatisfactory because you’ve prepared it and put it in the trash. In this case, look up the manufacturer of the product and write them an e-mail. They might even have a product comment form on their website.

Be sure to provide pertinent detail from the packaging if you can. They may need to know upc codes, date codes and other information in order to tackle product quality control.  They will likely send you a reimbursement in the mail.

Managing your money well includes things like budgeting and saving for the future but it also includes spending it on products and services that will improve your quality of life so when something isn’t satisfactory, it’s worthwhile to try to recoup your losses whenever possible.
